The AS2 protocol is primarily a secure file transfer protocol utilizing S/MIME capabilities for digital encryption, signature and non-repudiation. Unlike FTP, SFTP or FTPS, it operates over the web protocols HTTP and HTTPS, and is used extensively for the exchange of EDI files such as X12 or EDIFACT, and many other types of files such as XMl, JSON, CSV, Flat files, Text files, images or other binary or text files.
